My dear friend, welcome on board. This fast is about abstaining from doing the thing (s) God has put on your heart for 40 days. Some people are not going to watch TV, some people are shutting down their What’s App, some people are not eating a particular food item as we pray every single day seeking God’s face.
Organize time to pray in the morning and in the evening and make each prayer session at least 45 mins long. It is a time of sacrifice, let’s aim to spend much more time with God than we usually do. Let the Holy Spirit push you, it will not be in vain. If you can spend 1 hour to pray and worship in the morning, 1 hour in the evening or at night that will be awesome.
Time to appropriate God’s Word. 2018 is a Year of Victories!
I want to start by bringing to our attention something God is reminding of and that is key. All of us want good and powerful results when we fast or pray for something. God reminds us that the reason for rejected prayers is sometimes that we are keeping iniquity in our hearts and we want to be blessed (Psalm 66:18). One essential element to getting our prayers answered is confession and repentance before God. Our humanity naturally pushes us to often focus on everything that has been done against us but what about the things we have done to others?
Yesterday I was on the phone with my very good friend Priscilla and we were talking about some people we used to know. As a now changed person and ordained minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, I started reflecting on one particular person who came up during the conservation. Someone arranged a sort of date for myself and this gentleman. Back then I went on to say very unpleasant / humiliating things about him after that meeting, I told his male friends, they would laugh at him and they were telling other people and everyone in town in the Cameroonian community eventually got to hear it. It had a not so positive impact on him, he really distanced himself from a lot of his friends and a lot of people within that community. When I look at it now I realize it was a form of bullying and we know God is definitely against that type of behavior. Then I reminded Priscilla of that time again and shared how I repented of those actions I took when I was not born-again as God was taking me through the process of becoming his servant.
Would you today stop focusing on yourself and look at what you have done to others that impacted them in a negative way and was wrong before God? Write those events down on a piece of paper and confess your wrongs out loud to God, ask for his forgiveness and receive it. There is much freedom and healing in writing things down and reading them out loud to God, so I encourage you to do it and experience freedom and healing on a new level.
Seeing what God wants us to confess is only good for us so our blessings can come. There are no blessings without repentance as we learn from his word. Not the type of repentance that says the words and the heart isn’t in it but the type of repentance that comes from the heart and says: Lord, I truly want to abandon these ungodly ways and put your ways in my life.
Let’s go to today’s blessing found in Matthew 10:34, I believe you will love this one. This is what Jesus said: “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.”
Yes, Jesus came to bring peace, that is peace between man and God. But he did not come to bring peace for the devil or peace to evil! Peace is a state where there is no war between two or more parties. And the devil will never stop his war against God from what we learn in the bible. Him and his army are God’s enemy apparently forever. So Jesus did not come to sign a peace treaty with the devil!
The purpose of Jesus is to bring a clear separation between good and evil, light and darkness, children of God (believers) and children of the devil (those who worship and serve him). The purpose of the sword Jesus came to bring is to cut off evil and the works of the devil. “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil” 1 John 3:8. Jesus is God’s sent sword! Jesus is the sword.
So my friend I want to leave you with what I hear from God today: It-is-not-over-yet!
Jesus came to bring a sword against your enemy the devil and your enemies in the heavenly places, the rulers of the darkness of this age. He came to bring a sword against every dark power fighting against you so that you a child of God may overcome all those enemies!
Jesus and his blood represent God’s weapon to put an end to the devil. Jesus is not a temporary measure, he is the permanent remedy against your spiritual enemies. Do you realize who you have as your ally in the person of Jesus? There couldn’t be a better proof of God’s love for us.
Jesus our ally and weapon. Jesus our ally, come.
I pray this prayer for you today: Let Jesus power be revealed over your problem. Let Jesus power show up and destroy every work of the devil against you, in Jesus name!
Remind the devil of his future today, Revelation 20:7-8, 10. I trust the Holy Spirit will lead you.
